Lot's of excitement in Crimson Moon!

Crimson Moon ended up being more exciting that what I thought it would be! I am so happy that I read this because the characters in this book are wonderful!

Crimson Moon starts off with a little background info on the main character, Emma. You get the opportunity to hear all about her lonely life. She has no mother or father. All she has is grandma, and she can't even remember who Emma is. Emma's life takes a sudden change the minute an old classmate talks to her at a diner. From that moment on Crimson Moon is all excitement! Emma is pretty much thrown into a world that she never new existed. She learns all about vampires and werewolves and how both creatures are a part of her life. She also learns that she is a member of vampire royalty, and that her life will now change forever. Her life is also no longer safe, and she must be protected at all costs. She is surrounded by several werewolves who have been given the task of protecting her and one of those werewolves is Caleb. Caleb is a total gentleman. He risks his life to get her where she needs to go safely while filling her in on what her new life will be. There are times that Emma wishes that her life could go back to what it used to be. But there is no turning back now.

Along the way we meet lots of interesting characters. One such character is Trent. The minute Trent came into the scene I knew that things were going to get a lot more interesting. If you like bad boy vampires, Trent is the one for you. He also becomes one of Emma's protectors and teaches her lot of things about the vampire world.

Crimson Moon was the type of book that sucked me in from the beginning. I just didn't want to stop reading and when the end came, I was sad. I wanted the story to just go on and on. That my people is a sign of a good book as well as a great author. Jaime has told me that Crimson Moon was the first book that she ever wrote and all I can say is that I am impressed. I am a huge fan of Jaime's writing and cannot wait for what she has in store for us in the future.

Romantic Paranormal

Emma is a young woman who is basically on her own. She doesn't know her father and her mother died when she was young so she was raised by her grandmother who is now incoherent most days due to her failing health. Her life is not that of an average 18 year old but certainly certainly mundane to say the least. That's all about to change with one visit to a local cafe. A former classmate from school spots her and stops to say hello. When Emma gets a strange vibe from him, she makes a polite but quick retreat. That's when her world is changed forever. She finds herself being chased down by a gang of semi-human creatures. In the process she is abducted by two men who claim they are they are there to protect her. They tell her she is the daughter of a powerful Trueblood vampire and her life is in danger. In a matter of minutes, Emma is thrust into a dangerous world of vampires and werewolves.

Caleb is a werewolf who is part of a unique group that has been hired by the Trueblood vampires for protection. This is supposed to be just a job but it doesn't take Caleb long to realize Emma is much more than a charge he's bound to protect. In the process of their journey together, Emma finds herself inexplicably attracted to Caleb, and he appears to feel the same way about her. Fate seems to have put them together, however it is now about to tear them apart. Emma must leave Caleb to go to her Vampire family to make a choice that will forever change her life.

Crimson Moon reads almost like to books combined. In the first half (the werewolf half) we experience Emma and Caleb's developing romance. Knowing they will have to eventually part ways it's a very emotional build on their romantic relationship. When the time comes for Emma to leave and go to her vampire family,(the vampire half) we're introduced to Trent, a vampire that has been watching Emma for years. He's been watching out for her on orders from her father. He acts as mentor to her when she is introduced to her vampire family, guiding her and teaching her in vampire ways and laws. He also has a romantic interest in Emma which she resists, but due to her circumstances, things become very complicated.

I found myself very torn in this love triangle which I didn't think possible. Caleb is certainly a swoon worthy hero and he captured my heart right away. When Trent entered the picture I was immediately suspect of him and never dreamed I might be tempted to the vampire side. However I found myself to be quite fickle in my affections for the heroes in this story and a bit torn in how I feel about the ending. I most certainly look forward to the next book in series, in hopes that all the heroes I loved in this book will find their happily ever after.

I really only have one tiny complaint with this story and it's one I can't discuss fully without spoiling. So, I will put it this way: I was not fully convinced at the reaction one of the characters had to an epic betrayal. Although this particular character seemed to take pretty much everything in stride, the betrayal was major and the reaction just didn't seem inline with the offense and it felt glazed over. I wish I could go into more but that's really all l can say without ruining a major plot twist, sorry.

J.A. Saare has written a wonderfully romantic story in Crimson Moon. The characters are emotionally authentic and the writing is crisp with with an exciting plot that is sure to pull you in and keep you captivated with every page. If you like stories with sexy, romantic heroes, strong, quick witted heroines, and intriguing plot twists, then you'll want to read Crimson Moon.

Excellent work!

Another great work by J.A. Saare! I have to disagree with the reviewer who said they loved Dead, Undead, or Somewhere In Between and felt like Crimson Moon was written by a different author.

I don't think it's fair to compare CM with Dead. Crimson Moon's Emma is not Rhiannon and I don't think we should expect the same type of characters or writing from the author each time. I personally enjoy it when authors branch out so to speak and write different types of novels. Otherwise, you just end up with someone like Danielle Steel who writes the same novel over and over and over using different characters.

Saare is a versatile writer with excellent characters and I look forward to her coming works!

Just What I Needed...

I love Cheyenne McCray and I've been hooked on her Lawmen Series so, when I saw this series I was all over it!!

I'm so glad that I got this book! I loved how this is a redemption love story between Zack & Skylar. Zack & Skylar were high school sweethearts until Zack got arrested. When Zack was arrested he was devastated to see how much turmoil he put Skylar through and he walked away from her and their future.

10 very long years later Skylar thinks she is over the hurt Zack inflicted, that is until he walks right back into her life to help with a cattle smuggling ring that is taking her stock. Skylar puts up a fight not to be in Zack's life again but Zack is just as determined to win her back.

These two make sparks fly right off the pages and finally unravel the mystery surrounding the ranch and find true love again.

This was just what I needed for a quick pick me up today!

ANOTHER SEXY READ FROM CHEYENNE MCCRAY

Zack Hunter was known as a 'bad boy', but Skylar loved him with everything she had. But he walked away from her 10 years ago.

As an ICE agent, he has returned to his hometown to reclaim Sky as his own .. and to round up some cattle rustlers who are shipping prime beef into Mexico .... along with the possibility of drugs.

An informant has stated that someone close to the investigation is involved ....and it's someone Sky knows. Zack is doing what he can to find the people responsible and to get Sky to trust him again.

The heart loves who the heart loves and Sky has never stopped loving Zack ... but she's hesitant to give her heart to him again. But it feels so good to be held by him again. He's not the same boy he was all those years ago ...he's a MAN ... and one she can't keep her hands off of.
Lots of romance and graphic intimacy. Zack is the guy all of us ladies wish we had and Skylar is the woman we envy. Lots of energy and action and plenty of characters to play "who's the bad guy'.

I enjoy Cheyenne McCray's books .... a departure from what I normally read ...but a nice change. I like a little spice. The author does a good job in balancing the sex scenes with the suspense. Her characters are well-rounded and there's always hints on why they are the way they are. It makes them much more believable.

As long as the author continues to write, I will continue to read.

Loved the suspense plot, probably more than the romance.

I was a little worried when I picked up this book, for professional reasons. When a book crosses my line of work, I tend to read it more critically and sometimes end up (unintentionally) picking it apart. Luckily, Cheyenne McCray did a fairly good job explaining the federal law enforcement role in this story, and nothing stuck out to me as glaringly wrong or out of place. So kudos to Cheyenne for doing her research!

Skylar McKenna owns a ranch near the U.S./Mexican border in small town Arizona. Her heart was crushed at only 19 years old, when her boyfriend of six months left town to become a federal agent. Since then, she has dated but not gotten overly involved, despite all the masculine ranch hands surrounding her at all times. Sky was okay for me - I didn't have a great connection with her character, and I think she came off as a tad bitter. However, I did admire her ability to work and thrive in such a male-dominated field. I can only imagine how much she had to prove herself before anyone would take her seriously as a cattle rancher. (And I say that because I work in a male-dominated field as well and can empathize with her plight.)

Zack Hunter is the typical alpha male law enforcement hero. He goes after what he wants, even he if has to act like a bulldozer to do it. I enjoyed his uber alpha behavior, but I usually enjoy these types of heroes. Zack has a tortured past involving a rough and abusive childhood, however I think this aspect could have been developed more to create a deeper emotional connection to his character. As it was, his rough edges were softened up a bit, but he could still kick ass and take charge where its most important (in the bedroom).

While I enjoyed the story, I am noticing that I have lost interest in the contemporary second chance romance trope. My drama tolerance is very low at the moment, so I end up getting annoyed (usually with the heroine) and I lose some enjoyment in the story. This story had the H/h reconciling rather quickly so the drama didn't last quite as long... but I had a little trouble with believing that such a grudge was being held over a 6 month relationship that occurred when the heroine was 19. I also didn't feel a great emotional connection between the couples. Their bodies certainly aligned in all the right places to set off some sparks, but the emotional part fizzled out for me.

That being said, the suspense was pretty good. I don't think I figured out the culprit until the big reveal. I had suspicions, but they were mostly of the wrong people. All of those suspicions, though, pulled me into the story and made me want to unravel the mystery. So much so that I may have skimmed some of the sexytime scenes. The cattle rustling itself, while not typically something that ICE would investigate, was certainly presented in a way that made it plausible for the agency to get involved.

Overall it was a good story, and an entertaining quick read. There were some great secondary characters that have potential as future heroes in the series, and I am looking forward to seeing what McCray has in store for them.

About the Author
Nikos Kazantzakis was born in 1883 in Herakleion on the island of Crete. During the Cretan revolt of 1897 his family was sent to the island of Naxos, where he attended the French School of the Holy Cross. From 1902 to 1906 he studied law at Athens University. He worked first as a journalist and throughout a long career wrote several plays, travel journals and translations. His remarkable travels began in 1907 and there were few countries in Europe or Asia that he didn't visit. He studied Buddhism in Vienna and later belonged to a group of radical intellectuals in Berlin, where he began his great epic The Odyssey, which he completed in 1938. He didn't start writing novels until he was almost 60 and completed his most famous work, Zorba the Greek, in 1946. Other novels include Freedom and Death (1953) and The Last Temptation (1954), which the Vatican placed on the Index. Return to Greco, an autobiographical novel, was published in 1961.Nikos Kazantzakis finally settled in Antibes with his second wife, and died there from leukaemia in October 1957. He is buried at Herakleion, where the epitaph on his tomb reads: 'I hope for nothing. I fear nothing. I am free'.

An excellent complement to anyone's collection of Genesis P-Orridge/COUM Transmissions/Throbbing Gristle/Psychic TV material OR anyone with a significant interest in mail art/postal networking. This volume is comprised of primary documents covering Gen's early mail art experiments in the COUM Transmissions / pre-Throbbing Gristle era, including letters to & from William S. Burroughs and correspondence sent to the 'grandfather of mail art', Ray Johnson. The quality of the reproductions inside the book are hard to read at times and appear to be copies of copies. If you're invested in the material, it won't matter to you at all. Best perused as an addendum to the fantastic Wreckers of Civilisation: The Story of Coum Transmissions & Throbbing Gristle unless you are already quite familiar with that era of Gen & co.'s career. Well worth the low price tag.

This book is fine, but it ends with asking you to buy another book to see how it ends!

It's actually quite an entertaining read, but the story doesn't end at the end of the book. Instead they want to buy another book to see how the story actually turned out. Not cool.

Insightful and Hillarious

I would defy anyone who has ever lived in the UK, or anywhere else that is often cold, wet and rainy, not to say that they have had a secret yearning to change their life by heading for a life abroad. Every years, millions of us make the cattle class journey to European resorts and we watch the Brit's who have made it, those who live permanently in our holiday destinations, with envy, thinking `what if`. But, is the grass always greener in the sun? Of course not, it's usually non-existent, the landscape can be barren and you definitely don't get the manicured countryside that I love about Britain.

In More Ketchup than Salsa, Joe had me laughing so hard that I spilled a cup of tea all over the bed. His tale of travelling from Bolton Fish Market to Tenerife Costa del Bognor opens up the can of worms that most of us never even consider when we are sitting sipping coffee on a terrace and dreaming. His daily battles with cockroaches, the local mafia, animals and the never ending variety of people that stepped through his door, was the wake up call I needed to think again about what it was I might just do if I ever decided to take the plunge and live abroad. This is the perfect book to take on holiday with you especially if you are already planning to make that move.

I get this feeling...

that this author was either funded by or worked for the fossil fuel industry. I'll get to that after I go over what I liked about the book.

There is a lot of information about the spectrum of energy production in the US. The topics include (I'll just list the chapter titles)

1. Energy Concepts, Forms, Laws

2. Petroleum

3. Natural Gas

4. Coal

5. Gaseous and Liquid Fuels from Coal

6. Fuels from Oil Shale, Tar Sands, Biomass, Waste

7. Fossil Fuel Reserves Versus Consumption

8. Electric Power

9. Nuclear Energy

10. Solar Energy

11. Other Sources of Energy for Electric Power Generation

12. Energy Storage

13. Energy Use in Agriculture

14. Energy Use in Transportation

15. Pollution of the Atmosphere from Energy Use

16. Energy Conservation

17. Energy Supply for the Future

What I really enjoyed were the numbers that were given. Those make the time I spent reading this book worth it, but I wouldn't pay for this book. That is, I would be happy to get this book out from the library (again), but I would not spend any money to look at this book.

Now to why I think this book is tainted...

The first red flag was, keeping in mind that this book was full of statistics, that there is no mention of fossil fuel subsidies! (2006 subsidies were about $15 billion... that's a HUGE number to ignore!) Next, the book basically says global warming is a complete fluke, and then goes on to only focus on the Northern Hemisphere (ie, not GLOBAL warming); I would have thought that someone who specialized in energy would not have been ignorant on global warming in 1999. Lastly, some of the analysis seemed very much off and biased... here's an example...

"[2000-pound-class vehicle] are very unsafe on highways where most vehicles are much heavier... It would be difficult, even impossible, for the elected legislators to impose such a weight reduction against the wishes of their constituents. Furthermore, from safety considerations, informed legislators would not impose such safety hazards on their constituents." -page 346

The above quotation essentially summarizes what he says on the topic repeatedly in the book -- that people who are concerned about safety should drive large vehicles and those that don't are just asking to get hurt. There are a few problems with Wiser's analysis. First off, isn't there a government concern about those people in the small cars? Second, in his scenario he ignores the fact that vehicle weight would be lower, meaning it would be safer for smaller vehicles (and not substantially more dangerous for the larger ones in the accident). Third, he NEVER mentions the rollover dangers of large vehicles, which was a major concern at the time of the book's writing.

This repitition of the dangers of small cars and negligence in not mentioning the issues above is ludicrous. Wiser takes a very irresponsible perspective on this topic.

If it was just one topic when Wiser aired on the side of the fossil fuel industry or just 50% of the time, I would not be questioning the spirit of the book. However, it seemed whenever there was an opportunity for Wiser to comment, it was either neutral or in favor of the fossil fuel industry. Even when a comment seemed unwelcome, Wiser was there with (occasionally negligent) commentary. Also, don't be fooled by the conservation chapter -- it was pretty much worthless relative to most websites on energy conservation.

On top of this, the book is outdated. "Cost competitive" of the year 1999 means nothing to today's high energy prices, both oil and electricity, meaning a lot of the cost comparison in this book are useless.

Basically, this book is, at best, outdated, and, at worst, corrupted. Look elsewhere unless you can get your hands on this book for free (and even then, be warned about the apparent bias).

This was published in 1959 by the University of Texas and the professor is a PhD in geography. It is extremely well researched and logically presented in sections of geography, history, environment, culture and the development of Portugal as an individual country.

If you are interested in history, how a nation was born and culture this is a great book. Sure, it feels a bit dated but, it is a great piece of work for anyone wanting to go deeper into knowing Portugal.
