Sathe (India), Heinz Klug (South Africa), and Mark Tushnet (United States). Each chapter describes not only the interpretive methodology currently used by the courts, but the evolution of that methodology since the constitution was first enacted. The book also includes a concluding chapter which compares these methodologies, and attempts to explain variations by reference to different social, historical, institutional and political circumstances.

Mysteries of Karma and Reincarnation Eplained

After waiting two years to see this book in print, all I can say is that it was worth the wait! While the "Change Your Aura, Change Your Life" book explains how to use light to change and improve your challenges in life now, and "The Healing Power of Your Aura" shows how light can be used to heal yourself, this book makes the whole grand scheme of life come into focus. It's very comforting to know that enlightenment is a long and sometimes winding road, and that there is "no sin past redemption". We are given many chances to improve ourselves, remove old negative Karma, and create the dynamic good Karma that comes back to us multiplied! I like to think of it as the "Divine Do-Over". Judgement of others is reduced when we realize we have been where they are, and made numerous poor choices, too.

Must read book

I was born and raised in Taiwan. Reincarnation is fully recognized and embraced in my culture but until I read this book I had no idea how does it really work. Being interested in metaphysical study for about 20 years, I've read a lot of books, been to many workshops, seminars, and events. There are books that I consider as cornerstone for my journey such as Celestine Prophecy, Way of the Peaceful Worrier, Autobiography of a Yogi ..., and now this book would mark a newest cornerstone as I continue my journey.
If people could understand how reincarnation work, I think we will reach world peace because we would treat everybody, every situation differently. Compassion is given because there's no need to hate or angry at any other people. It's a perfect working system from a higher perspective. There is no victim. We created everything ourselves.

Crucial New Insight on Colonialism

This book provides remarkable insight on aspects of colonialism that is rarely broached in scholarly literature. That colonial powers and governments as well as businesses did so much to engineer, manage and control the sexual activity of people, both europeans and colonial subjects, and that on the basis of race, is amazing and disturbing. The primary previous information I had about this kind of thing is to be found in the works of Indonesian novelist Pramoedya Ananta Toer, who spent many years in prison, both under the colonial regime and the Indonesian national government. Some of his most remarkable and revealing work shedding light on these topics are his quartet of novels THIS EARTH OF MANKIND, CHILD OF ALL NATIONS, FOOTSTEPS and HOUSE OF GLASS. Stoler's work is a remarkable and very welcome addition and correction of much previous scholarly work on the 350 year colonial history and culture of the Netherlands East Indies.

About the Author
PETER FRITZSCHE (Ph.D., University of California, Berkeley) is professor of history at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he served as chair of the history department from 2000 to 2005. A social and cultural historian of Modern Europe, Professor Fritzsche has written five books: Stranded in the Present (2004), Germans into Nazis (1998), Reading Berlin 1900 (1996), A Nation of Fliers (1992), and Rehearsals for Fascism (1990). He is also a former Guggenheim and Humboldt fellow.

Short but lasts long.

Looking for a very short, single-volume but excellent intro to Nietzsche with a wide, well-chosen, purposeful sampling of his writings translated as competently as possible? Here it is.

There are much longer, more comprehensive tomes such as "The Portable Nietzsche" and "Basic Writings of Nietzsche" both edited and translated by Walter Kaufmann, and Blackwell's "The Nietzsche Reader" edited by Pearson and Large. But readers pressed for time, eager for concision, and nonetheless ready for a deep plunge into that oceanic spirit will appreciate this one.

The translated selections, mostly excerpts ranging from the early "On Truths and Lies in an Extramoral Sense", written in 1873, to "On the Genealogy of Morals", published 1887, comprise only 117 pages here, but are among his densest and will provide plenty for perhaps endless rumination.

In his excellent introductory essay Fritzsche calls Nietzsche "a furious, explosive 'black-flagged' thinker who repeatedly pulled apart the certainties of the Western tradition" with a "temperamental inclination against the self-satisfaction of the modern age" who "also wanted to reanimate the gods" and "described the world in an utterly new way" but "did not feel authorized by the accumulated wisdom of the Enlightenment" . . . with a "perspectival theory of knowledge" and questing "for new mythical ways of living" and who "did not operate inside the dominant rational and scientific framework" of our era.

This 36-page introductory essay alone is more than worth the purchase of the book, for both newcomers and those already well-read in Nietzsche. Fritzsche brings to the understanding of Nietzsche the approach not of an analytical philosopher but of a social, cultural historian of Europe, especially 20th Century Germany (see his Germans into Nazis, which I found fascinating and insightful). Nietzsche, given his frequent emphasis on historical thought, and on knowledge as rooted in culture rather than any absolute, would much prefer, I suspect, that latter approach.

Nietzsche, the ultimate iconoclast and bomb thrower, always engages the mind of the reader with his incisive insights into the mind and behavior of European man. Does he regard ordinary men highly? Not one iota. He has profound disgust with all of us---clergymen, laity, politicians, proletariat---everybody except one or two of us who qualify in his eyes as "overmen".An overman is one who transcends his contemporaries intellectually, spiritually and culturally. Someone like Goethe, Beethoven or Dostoevsky. In an entire generation there is only one or two such individuals.

The rest of us are the "herd", what others have termed the "great unwashed". Nietzsche flatters not. He has a way of splashing our fervid brows with ice-cold water. He is trying to teach us to live until we die, to laugh at death and god, to embrace life as we strive relentlessly to understand reality, to be captured by beauty wherever/whenever we are lucky enough to find it.

He is a great teacher, a bit daffy sometimes, but well-worth reading. When you read about the Death of God, be patient with the author. He gets carried away sometimes with his own exuberance. Keep reading, and you will be amazed.

EXCELLENT OVERVIEW WITH SUPERB SAMPLES

I do not know what kind of background the previous reviewer has but as artist and art teacher I highly recommend this book. The idea of valuing it according to price, like some kind of bean counter is absurd.
The book covers the fundamentals and the drawings are superb. It is easy to carry and also serves as a continuous source of style and inspiration.
As for the price it is worth every penny. If you want beautiful though realistic images to act as an ideal and have enough intelligence not to need Parental consent to see the nudes in the book please DISREGARD THE FATUOUS AND INCREDULOUS REVIEW ABOVE.
The book dose exactly what it claims and dose so with great art, style and composition. Craig Nelson is one of the most accomplished draftsman of this era and has made, and shows great choices.
Need to be taken by the hand through everything pertaining to drawing then head for your nearest art school, as no book can do what a serious series of classes in drawing fundamentals can do. However don't trash a perfectly fine and inspirational book for the price or the heck of it.
And, yes I do own the book and am very pleased with it. So are my many students.

art student drawing reference

I almost finished with this book and have concluded it is well worth the money.

It has a lot of information useful to the drawing student that I have not found elsewhere and I have a lot of drawing/art books.

Subjects are a quick and dirty summary except fot the demonstrations which cover maybe three pages and take you step by step through the process of makeing the drawing.

Begining Artist must read

I have just finished reading this book. I am an artist and I plan to give this book to young relative of mine for Christmas. It covers every aspect of drawing in an easy to understand way. I also like how the author combines other mediums with and in his drawings. The challenge to use several mediums in a single project is great. I will refer to this book many times when I work on my projects as well.
I would recommend this book to anyone, young or old, beginner or advanced who wishes to create a piece of art they can be proud to display.

About the Author
Dr Wendy Lawson PhD received her diagnosis of autism spectrum at the age of 40. As a writer, poet and adult educator, Wendy is well known in both the Northern and Southern hemispheres, and was awarded fourth place in the 'Australian of the Year' awards in 2008. Becoming a psychologist and sharing her knowledge, understanding and experience of life, including of autism and Asperger's diff-abilities, is an ongoing journey that Wendy welcomes. Wendy has written many books and numerous papers on the topic of the autism spectrum, and currently works as a writer, researcher, adult educator, and sessional lecturer at a number of universities, including Melbourne University, and as a distance education tutor for The University of Birmingham, in the UK.

A bridge to understanding differences between autistic and normal thinking

While it is somewhat technical at times, I think that the idea she presents in this book is very important. Being someone with Aspergers syndrome, I find that her explanation of single focused attention (she has created the acronym SAACA) being the main difference between those on the spectrum and those not, to very well describe my situation.

I think that she is attempting to create an understanding between the neurotypical world and the autistic world. She is attempting to get rid of the stigma associated with autism to help the rest of the world understand that it is really just a different way of viewing life. And I think she accomplishes this.

I would recommend it to both those on the spectrum, as well as others who just want to understand their autistic friends or children. It gives an important framework for understanding what autistic thinking and behavior is all about. This is obviously useful for someone on the spectrum, but also for those who may struggle to relate to them. The book is somewhat technical at times though, sometimes having more technicality than I wanted to read. I think that the reason for this, though, is she was trying to provide a comprehensive overview of her theory, as compared to other theories in the field. But perhaps if you keep this in mind when reading, you can get through it and understand her main focus.
