Best book on freemium game design!

As a game industry veteran who has spent the last 10 years producing both premium and freemium titles, I found this book really exciting! Usually I have my producer plate full, so I have to stay away from the intricacies of game design, but this was so well written and so full of examples from my favorite games that I quickly got into it.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who knows what freemium or game design is.

An invaluable reference for the current state of free to play games

I'm new to the field of free to play. My processional background is in console game design. I've recently taken an interest in making the switch to developing mobile games. This was the 1st book I came across via my Kindle Unlimited account and thus checked it out at no additional cost.
What a wealth of information, and the concepts are straight forward for anyone to grasp from neophyte, to hobbyist, to professional. I can easily recommend this to any developer jumping into this genre.
The book is extremely well divided so even experts can jump to 2nd part of the book that deals with monetization and how to do it better.

The most ridiculous theory ever! After being happily married 23 yrs I feel that I would be a more qualified author than this one, who from what I understand was divorced.. if not, come talk to me after you've been married 23 yrs.. In that time, I've swung a hammer next to my husband while we built our home, mowed the yard and other 'manly' things. We've discussed our faults and laughed at our mistakes and sometimes been too busy raising our family to be able to connect with one another every now and then. It's all in the way it's done. You talk and discuss about things, not belittle. He was never 'emasculated' from it and we have 4 beautiful kids so your testosterone theory seems to ring false.. I don't walk around with a smile on my face at all times even when I'm not happy as you suggest, that's absurd, but we try not to sweat the small stuff and seek positive things in every situation. Love that man to the moon & back!....God put us here to be helpmates, not sponges or slaves. You should have self-respect, not cater to every whim of a man or put on a 'fake face' to please him. You or both of you will be miserable. You should both be true, loyal and honest to yourselves and each other. If you both love each other's 'true person' you can be together. There is no other love like it. If not, move on and find someone who loves you for being you and can accept your 'faults'. What are faults to some are qualities to others. You need to compromise to make any relationship work, but don't have to give up being yourself to find/keep a man. What a load of poppycock!! I told my daughter to 'RUN!' after her boyfriend sent her a page from this book. He has proven to be the sick individual who would buy into this nonsense. Since then, I've read more of the book and am extremely disappointed people really agree with this type of mentality and listen to people who have no authority on what they are speaking. You can give anyone a pen, but a knowledgeable author it does not make. I would give this book 0 stars if possible. *SMH*

Inspiring!

I am so glad I had time to read this book in between scrubbing the floor in my kitchen where I belong and making sandwiches for my husband. How could I not see women were inferior to men? This book is enlightening, probably the greatest book for wives. I doubt a better one will come along until at least twenty years from now in the 70's. Thank you, Ro Élori Cutno, for opening my eyes to God's truth. For man was made first, after all.

Worth the Read

My husband & I just finished reading this book together. It is certainly challenging conventions for both of us. I would say it is worth the time to read. Take what you can and weave it into your relationship. Leave the rest on the table if it is too much to handle for you. It has definitely sparked some very deep conversation between us and we are understanding each other and reconnecting - regardless of whether or not we agree with everything written.

About the Author

Matthew Olson earned his undergraduate degree in 1973 at The University of California, Davis, and completed his PhD in Experimental Psychology at The University of Michigan in 1977. He joined the faculty at Hamline University in Saint Paul, Minnesota in 1977, where he continues to enjoy teaching undergraduate students and writing.

Get the 7th edition

I had the opportunity to compare the 7th and 8th edition and all the chapter titles/subheadings are almost identical. Even the page numbers are within 5 pages apart. The text is fine, I just don't want other students to pay extra for the same material.

Great book for class

This book is very thorough and describes each theorist without bouncing around to the point of confusion. I was able to really learn about each one and how they influenced each other. I will be keeping this book for future reference.

Awesome Book!

Very easy to read and follow. Information in the book was very retainable. I wish the book was a little more specific but for the class I took it was more than good enough. I also wish that there were more examples for certain theories and concepts.
